  • A Sign of the Times

I have to tell you what's been going on here... I'm not looking for sympathy, I just want to share my story.

On August 31st, the company I worked for the past 8 years had a nationwide layoff and I have found myself unemployed. When I got home from work that day there was a letter in the mailbox from the NC Dept. of Motor Vehicles informing me that they are pulling my driver's license due to my poor vision!

Now I am not only without a job but I can't get to a job even if I had one! August 31st wasn't a very good day.

Sept. 30th my wife comes home and tells me that she was laid off from work today. Now neither one of us has a job...isn't that just special?

It's a sign of the times. Things are rough all over, companies are cutting back and when a person leaves they are not being replaced...they just get someone else at the company to assume the workload.

Of course now that we are not working we also have no medical insurance (not a very good thing since we both take lots of prescriptions).

Luckily, I was in the Navy and can get treatment and prescriptions at the Veterans Hospital but that doesn't help my wife since she was not in the service.

I have been designing websites on the side and have a couple of dozen clients so I am trying to turn that into a full time enterprise. So if you know anyone that needs a website, please send them my way.

I am also open to any other legitimate work at home ideas you may know about since that appears to be my only option now that I can't drive.

    TV Trivia

Okay...this one's pretty tough. See if you know what show this was? I'll give you a couple of hints. The horse's name is Sky Rocket and these two guys were friendly rivals at the Triple R Ranch. Tim Considine played one of the kids.

It's a classic rich kid/poor kid tale about a benign rivalry between a spoiled, orphaned rich kid who shows up on Day One at the ranch in his grandma's chauffeured limousine with a butler in tow, and the most popular and athletic boy in camp who's had to work each year to afford to attend.

If you know what show this was send me an email: mmarinaro@nc.rr.com

    WOW...Look what I found!

If any one is a Sky King fan, I found a website that has 64 episodes online. That's right...all you have to do is click on the episode # and you can watch the tv show in glorious black & white.

Click Here to visit Sky King website.

This was one of my favorite shows. I always wanted to be a pilot after watching this. One of my friends and I even went to the Danbury airport once after watching Sky King and talked them into taking us for a ride in a Cessna. All we had to do was sweep out the hanger, fill up the coke machine and clean up the place a little. What a deal, they flew us right over our houses and everything!

"Out of the clear blue of the Western skies comes...Sky King!"

This is my favorite time of the year and the time that I really miss Connecticut. The leaves change here in North Carolina especially in the mountains but it just doesn't compare to the beautiful fall colors in Connecticut!

October 11th is my 59th birthday...hard to believe I am almost 60! I really never thought I would make it this far!

Hey I was looking through some old files the other day and I came across a story I had written about the Oil Mill Pond. Anyone remember the Oil Mill Pond in Danbury? It's not there anymore...let me know why they drained it if you happen to know.

Anyway, the story I wrote is true and it was published in Angels on Earth Magazine back in 2004.

The story is about The Oil Mill Pond, thin ice, and an angel.

Here's the link if you'd like to read it and send me your comments.

If any of you have a true story about angels, I would love to hear it.

Do you believe in angels? I sure do.
